Re: Pearl Drums

Thank you. Yeah it was a really good find. Hoping someone can give me an idea on how old the set might be. Not really excited about the cymbals though. Im looking into some either Sabian AAX or Zildjan A Customs. Been doing alot of research on it and trying to figure out which ones i want.

Re: Pearl Drums

You can mixed the cymbals products. I know a drummer who has done that and has been successful. Its a matter os taste. Don't forget that these cymbal companies has some kindred in that the Brothers together created the Zildjan cymbal. One of the Brothers broke away and created the Sabian cymbal. The Sabian version AA series is a great producing, smooth, and consist. The same can go for Zildjan A & K cymbal. These can and are used to play in any genre setting. Good luck Sir!. As for the Pearl Export Drum you have, one suggested to look in the bass drum hoop or the bass drum itself, Pearl used to stamp a series number and/or date as to when drum was manufacturer. Again, Good Luck with finding the year the export drum set was manfacturer!! PEACE!!!!!!!

Im having trouble loading up pictures of it so that it can be seen but would love to find out how old it is and such. Its in excellent condition.

I've just posted a Thread linking us to the Pearl Badges. Look for your badge and let us know which year they were made.

Re: Pearl Drums

Thanks for the input. Havent found anything yet but still looking. Thanks for the info on the cymbals. Yeah I know what you mean about them being a matter of taste. Thats the hardest part. LOL. Ive been doing alot of research on them and trying to figure out what sounds good to me. I also have to take into consideration that playing in my garage is gonna sound different then say on a stage based on the acoustics.

Pickin cymbals isn't rocket science. When you hear what you like, you buy.

Re: Pearl Drums

I think it could be said that whilst Pearl are still making excellent drums what they are losing is the marketing war.

Back in the 1980s and even 1990s Pearl was an aspirational brand for young drummers; there were a few cheap kits such as the Maxwin and Olympus ranges to cut your teath on but then you generally (certainly in the UK) went for a Pearl Export or a Premier kit as the first "proper, grown up" drum kit.

After that you looked at the stratospheric kits such as Tama.

Pearl had a firm grip of the mass middle market.

Nowadays Pearl have lost their position in the marketing war to Mapex, DW etc.

I still have a Pearl export and I love it.

Re: Pearl Drums

Good Morning so much for your statement concerning Pearl Drums. I suspect that could be PEARL's problem as well concerning marketing war. It is true that MAPEX and DW are winning the marketing wars. My Son's goal is to get a DW Collector's Item kit. I mentioned that the Pearl's Reference kit is as great of drum kit as any DW drum kit. My Son has played a DW Collector's Item kit 5-piece; You loved playing on the DW drum kit. I played on Pearl and Yahama as young laad. It is good from drummer who think and appreciates PEARL DRUMS.

RESPECTFULLY,

The Chuckster
