Idea for Future Custom Drumset

Hey. I'm new to forums about drums, but I had a hard time making an account without it getting screwed up until I finally came here (no trouble at all)! Yay! So anyway, I'm thinking that in a while I could buy a custom kit made from scratch. Might take a few months to a few years, but I still think it'd be worth it. The custom drum shop of choice for me is oderydrums. Every review I've seen about them said they were either really good or phenomenally good with the custom made drums, and from what I've seen their average kit go for, they're very cheap for custom drumsets. ($3000-4000 for a 7 piece kit I heard)

So, up to speed with the guy I might ask, now the sound I'm into. I'm really looking for that metal kit sound. And what I find exceptionally decent as a 'metal drumset' sound is deep, low pitched toms, with a nice 'clacky', high pitched snare drum that cuts through everything nice and easy, and a Kick drum that falls along the same lines. And, I am also into a large kit (Surprise, surprise. Another wannabe metal drummer that wants a kit the size of Terry Bozzio's) Nah. . . . . not THAT desperate for a big kit. I just want a kit that could hold five toms, one or two bass drums, depending on whether or not I want to keep my '2x pedal', a snare drum, and numerous cymbals. Okay, for the next bit, it will be sizes I'm thinking about getting.

*THE LIST OF TOMS GOES FROM SMALLEST TO LARGEST IN DIAMETER.

SIZE (DIAMETERxDEEP)/ PLYS/ THICKNESS/ SHELL MATERIAL
----------------------
TOMS
----------------------
8x6.5/ 4PLY/ 5.5 THICKNESS/ TEAK
10x7.5/ 4PLY/ 5.5 THICKNESS/ TEAK
12x8.5/ 4PLY/ 5.5 THICKNESS/ TEAK
14x9.5/ 4PLY/ 5.5 THICKNESS/ TEAK
16X18/ 4PLY/ 5.5 THICKNESS/ TEAK

----------------------
BASS DRUM(S)
----------------------
20x16/ 6PLY/ 7.5 THICKNESS/ AURACARIA
20x16/ 6PLY/ 7.5 THICKNESS/ AURACARIA

----------------------
SNARE DRUM
----------------------
13x4/ 6PLY/ 8.0 THICKNESS/ ALUMINUM

END OF LIST!!!

So, as you can see from my sizes, I like four deeper, larger rack toms. And a normally deep floor tom. Two bass drums that aren't very deep help with that punchy higher-pitched thud sound that'll help it stand out from the resonance of the deep toms. And the aluminum shell snare drum that has a smaller diameter and width is the icing on the cake, with a high pitched focused sound, and lots of clacky snare action, seeing as the snares would only be 4 inches away from the top head! Now here's the head list:

----------------------
TOMS
----------------------
Remo Onyx Heads = Batter
Remo Clear Diplomat = Reso
----------------------
KICK DRUM
----------------------
Aquarian Superkick II = Batter
Evans EQ3 w/ Porthole = Reso

----------------------
SNARE DRUM
----------------------
Emperor X = Batter
Hazy 300 = Reso

END OF LIST!!!

The reason I picked Onyx heads is because these babies sound BEST tuned low on toms. I just got the reso heads, cuz I heard they sounded good. Now, I got the Aquarian SKII because that head gives me the perfect high pitched thud sound I want in a bass drum. The EQ3 head helps so that the thud isn't too resonant. And finally the Emperor X. I chose this guy combined with the Hazy 300 because that combo reduces overtones drastically (YAY!) and gives me that clacky snare-snapping sound you get in metal. That's all I got for my dream metal kit. HAHA! Tell me what you think, and give me any advice you got. ANY and ALL advice is appreciated. TYVM. Feels great to be on a new forum!

Looks like you've done your homework and it's all about what YOU WANT! I've been researching a custom set (friends' company(Risen Drums)) or saving money with a nice Mapex set (half the price). What it comes down to is this, will I possibly want to replace it in a couple years? If not, go for it and enjoy your investment!!! I finally decided too save up a little longer, be patient, and get EXACTLY what I want! Post those pix's ASAP on whatever you go with!!!

It'll certainly be a while. I'm not the kind of guy that can get 3000-5000 bucks from thin air. lol. But , again, it could take YEARS until I get this. But, I'm sure that if I do get the money and then the kit, I'll be happy with the results, since they'd be completely customized by me, right down to the ast millimetter.

I hope you've got all your AutoCad files ready before the build.

And don't forget the patent.

I'm sorry, but I think there's a misunderstanding with what I'm talking about. These guys know how to build their drums, and also, I'm not designing them. THEY are designing them, as well as building them, and sending them to me. I highly doubt it'd need to get legal. lol
