I recently acquired/salvaged for a trade a set of premier drums that had been ignored in a damp garage I am told for 'years.' The bass and FT have rerings
whereas the mounted tom tom does not. The tom is 11 x 12 with no rerings.
However, the casings are the same on all three drums. And the interiors were all
kinda black stained which looks original. I am told by a drum junkie friend that the tom is a rocker and was not made until the eighties. Anybody have a take on what year of manufacture. The casings are what some would call 'shark tooth'
although my friend called them 'tear drop.' Also, I was going to recut the bearing edges but decided against it. The edges were rounded rather than a sharp 30 or 45 degree. I wish to keep them as authentic as possible. Not sure if this helps with the dating. (I'm trying for the first time Evans EC2 skins as batters and Evans G coated G1 as resonate.) Thanks
Thanks Tainojim. You didn't answer my qustion. You showed me how to answer it for myself. The kit which I thought was 70s is actually 81 - 86 Premier according to the badges on all three of mentioned drums. And guess what. Yesterday when the garage door (having answered an ad for drums) opened to reveal a golden set of vintage Premiers, my heart did a flip like when you see the strong, tall snow capped mountains for the first time. The owner of 20 years thought they were from the 80s. However, from the badge, they are 67 - 81 and because of serial number, after 1970. And they look like AM African Mahogany with middle ply of birch and beech rerings. What a find! (And the snare is COB Slingerland with Niles badge black background with silver outline.)
