heard of Conrad drums?

Anyone know the background to Conrad drums? They are cheap probably classed as beginners kits but to me seem pretty impressive. The wood (grain) is really nice - the hardware seems robust, the BD has 10 lugs. I cant sem to find anything wrong but haven't tried it and probably won't be able to.
Tried searching around and cant see them for sale new or any history, makers or country of origin, I guess they really are a cheapy non-branded asian factury produced set, But they really look a lot more and are being ofeered less than $200 second hand 5 piece inc. perfect condition inc. all hardware.

Re: heard of Conrad drums?

I could find nothing on the Vintage Drum Forum about Conrad drums, but it just so happens that
I saw a Conrad bass drum being played by a black Chicago jazz drummer at The Hideout in Chicago last week. Can't remember his name, but I was with John Litweiler who has a jazz radio show Monday evening in Chicago, and he had a high opinion of the drummer from past performances.

I was struck by the name "Conrad" on the bass drum because I had never seen it before. The whole set may have been Conrads, but, while the color of the drums was the same, the lugs weren't all the same. The drums sounded OK to me, although they didn't impress me as anything special. This probably doesn't help you much, but I was interested to hear the name "Conrad" applied to drums for the very first time and then again in the same week.

Re: heard of Conrad drums?

Well I didn't expect any replies so thanks for that. I wonder if the drummer you refer to was either Avreeayl Ra or Ernie Adams? I have since found a conrad kit for sale (sold) and the photos looked like a cheap beginners kit so they obviously make a range. The one that I have seen for sale looks like an intermediate - a bit like a sonor force 3007 for example although I think the conrad actually looks better in terms of quality, finish and hardware though.
None of them are badged and the only thing that can be seen is the conrad (in capitols) on the front BD skin.
