Would you recommend a wood or metal shell?
What size?
Specific model? Anton Fig is the closest I know to matching my kit.


Considering I'm playing thrash which doesn't tend to have a lot of rim shots.

So currently on my list:

Studio Maple 14X5 snare in Piano Black with Natural wood hoops.
AND
Anton Fig (have at my local shop)

Not sure if wooden hoops would suit metal but hey, experimentation leads to enlightenment.

Perhaps you should buy a set of hoops and claws and try them out on your current snare first, then you'll know what changes to expect.

I've wondered about the wood rim, never played any. I play off the rim a lot. Wood on wood I guess.

Would (wood) the rim have an effect on the sound when your hitting center in the head?

They look cool.
