Converting to "Jungle/Jazz Kit"

I have been searching for a while for a low profile kit for rehrearsals and gigging for reasons of logistics.

I live in a terraced victorian city in the UK with very poor parking close to the house, local gigs are also in bars/pubs with similar parking issues and I was sick to death of hauling a 5 piece centred around a hoofing great 22 inch bass drum around the city.

I looked at a second habd set of Arbiter flats, a set of rims, even an electronic kit but in the end I went for the cheap option and bought the Pearl JG-16 pedal adapter and a spare tom mounting bracket.

With this I have taken the legs off my 16inch floor tom, added the spurs from the Pearl JG-16 kit, cut a hole in the bottom head, added an Evans bass head spot and damped/detuned it with kitchen roll and gaffa tape (it took 30 seconds)

The toms I have suspended from the cymbal stands using a couple of Dixon clamps and away I go with a cracking low profile kit converted from a set of Pearl Exports.

The whole thing cost around £50 ($75US) and is proving to be great fun.

Has anyone else tried this or similar?

Any thoughts or have you lot been struck down like pithed frogs?

58 views and not an opinion or question; no wonder the forum is dying on it's feet.

Jungle kits are nothing new and drummers have been using them for the very same reasons you are. They are handy and very portable making them ideal for club to club tours.

There used to be sets packaged like this from manufacturers although I have not seen one on a showroom floor in more than a year now. The cool part is a sub woofer can be added to the bass to give it the massive cannon sound.
