What throne do you sit on?

For one of my gigs I do at school, the organization that I play for has some drums but no throne. So I basically play with a fold-up chair behind the kit. How ghetto is that?

Anyway, I've never sat on anything more than your basic drum throne - circular black cushion thing under double braced legs. Do any of you guys have those fancy Pork Pie or Roc-N-Soc thrones with plush cushions and back supports? They almost look TOO comfortable. You might just fall asleep while playing a beat.

I'm guessing you have a Pacific drum set then? I hate getting those butt cramps...

Nope, I currently play a ludwig kit. Im out growing it in terms of skill (Ive had it four years) and im in the market for a new set. I just got that throne because it looked nice, and it was cheap.

Yep, Pacific is poor man's DW and I really like the quality of some of their higher end hardware and drum kits.

Ludwig is great too but I guess we just all get bored with our kits after a while.

Plus the thrones that come with entry level kits aren't very inviting. Any beginner sitting on those for more than 5 minutes would just give up on drums completely.

I ended up getting a tama 1st chair throne a few years ago, it's the motorcycle fat boy seat and wow.
I take it with me to gigs where they already have a drumset and throne, It is one of the most comfy thrones I have ever sat on and it dosnt seam to be wearing out or sinking in and and because of the felt on the seat when I play in really short shorts it dosnt stick to my legs.

look into it I think it is worth it.

I still use the throne that came with my Pearl kit. I'm not a fan of it. Doesn't tighten as it should so it sinks a bit when I sit. I'm going to have to check out some of the ones mentioned here when I go get a new one. Glad I checked this thread out!

I used to just settle for the cheap Stagg ones. You know how it is, money's tight and you can't afford to splash out. However, I actually snapped two of them, all the movement of playing kept the shaft moving and eventually snapped in the middle while I was playing! (Not live, luckily).

Now I have a Tama 1st chair systems throne, fabric top. It's really worth spending the extra (in this case about £100 extra) for a totally stable throne. This one is silent too, I can hear my old ones on record creaking as I move. Not necessarily a bad thing, nothing wrong with lo-fi recording, but it shouldn't really happen. This Tama is rigid, locks at the height you want and the double-braced legs look like they'll last a long time.

The drum throne is probaly one of the best long term drum investments you can make. Comfort is key for good practice.
