Re: bass pedal spring tension

In my opinion, keeping it loose isn't a problem for speed.
I play with mine not ridiculously loose, but loosened say 90% of the way.
Like someone else said, you can get two hits out of it, and if your looking to fly at high speeds and just use your ankles/hip flexor muscles its the best thing to do.

High tension isn't bad however, I just dont like it. Derek Roddy plays with his Axis pedals spring tension all the way up, imagine that! Drop a pin on it and it would react!

Hope this helps a little,
Ben

Re: bass pedal spring tension

Mine are at a happy medium I have found that too low and they get a lil harder for speed and to high, they get annoying!!

Re: bass pedal spring tension

G'day all,
I like my pedal spring just tight enough to follow my foot, so as fast as I can lift my foot, the board will follow. I still have plenty of speed & power.
At least that's how I explain it, I've been playing for a while now & it seems to work for me, without getting tired, or sore in the leg, at the end of a four hour gig.

Re: bass pedal spring tension

Ya i go with a relatively loose spring, since I like to rely on the bounce off the head. I'm not too fast but then again I don't think tightening the spring would change my speed.

Re: bass pedal spring tension

My bass pedal spring is sort of medium-loose. My drum head is very slack as well, but at the moment i can comfortable play about 135bpm straight sixteenths with my feet without tension. I can't really say what I rely on to bring my pedal back.

For a while, i did play with springs all the way and it was quite easy to play heels up. But trying to do heel toe and slide at that tension was near impossible, so i took it down.

Re: bass pedal spring tension

Oddly enough, when I took my pedal out of the box for the first time, I left it there. It plays great. Go figure!

Re: bass pedal spring tension.

I like mine to be responsive and not on the loose side. Loose is sloppy. When adjusting spring tension i make sure that it is comfortable where I dont have to work so hard. So expeirenent with the tension till you get the feel that works for you.

I adjust my pedal to where it is just right...not too loose but not too tight.

It just feels like you get more OOMPH that way, you know?

I have mine a litle past medium. Nice speed, rebound, and is still easy to control.
