Pearl Rhythm Traveler advice

My friend is a beginner and wants a set that is compact and easy to lug around. Has anyone had any experience with the pearl rhythm traveler? The thing has no reso heads and the bass is really short in depth. how's the sound on the thing? Would you be able to play gigs on it?

well if he's a beginner I would advise against the rhythm traveler because since hes new he would want to learn the ins and outs of drumming like tuning and stuff. The rhythm traveler is pretty bad for that as it doesn't have the resonance heads and basically sounds like roto toms.. dont do it

I agree with J, if he's a beginner then I think he should get a Pearl export or something.. im not a big fan of the one sided toms and such.. it just doesn't seem natural. if he wants to practice on the road he should consider some pads.. i cant imagine using the rhytm traveler for a gig of any sort

well ive been able to play one before and I don't think it's as bad as everyone says it is. Of course its not going to be like a real drumset but it's pretty darn close and if u really need the portability then the traveler is a realy possibility. the mesh heads are also nice for silent practice but its a pain in the ass to change to real heads and back

if you get the right heads and you tune them properly, they'll sound pretty good for what theyre worth.

Get either a Pearl Forum or Pearl Export.

Yeah I wouldn't get a Pearl rhythm Traveler. There's so many better options out there that sound a lot better.
