rack for 5 piece drums

do you think getting a rack for a 5 piece drumset is unnecessary? I don't really plan on adding more toms but I do have about 7 cymbals. Should I buy a rack? some people tell me i dont need it but i think itll give me more flexibility for placement

honestly you dont need a rack with only 5 drums.. if you were to get it then it'd be just for looks which in my opinion is not worth the extra bucks.. but if you do i suggest you look in to gibraltar as they make good racks and hardware

I just got a rack the other day and it is the first one that I have ever owned.
I have to say that even on a 5 peice kit with seven cymbals that it can be really handy.
the bigest reson why is that everything is pre set for you.
I know that when ever I break down my kit and then go to set it back up that I have a hard time rembering exactly where every cymbal stand went to it's exact location that I had it before.
that is the hardest thing about setting up my kit is getting everything right where it needs to be.
if you have a 5 peice with 2 crashes a ride and HH then yes I would say that it is more cosmetic than anything else.

I have a bigger kit so It is really helping me out a lot and the big reson is I have to loose a bass drum for some of the places that we are playing but I want to keep all of my toms so I really need it for that reason.

hey full metal.
do u think being able to memorize tom angles and positions and stuff is worth carrying around the extra weight of the rack when you're moving your set around? not sure if i wanna get one. What kind did you get for your 5 piece and how much did it cost. thanks

About the five peice I was just making a statment.
I have 4 toms and about 9 cymbals that will be mounted on mine.

I got mine used on ebay for like 175.00, it is a gibralter curved rack and they had added an exstion on to it.

I hate to say but I have enough gear that it is hard for me to rember extly how it all go's.
also the point I was making is unless you have a carpet or somthing that you can mark on for all your stand placements it can be hard to get them in the same exact posion when you are setting them up.
in case it is not cleear because I dont think Im making any sinse any more
is the tri pod part of the stand or the legs and feet can be very hard to get into the same exact spot as you had gotten comfertable with playing at home or wherever you have your kit put up at and also the advantige to a rack on a five peice is some places you play you only have like 15 min to set up and break down your kit and trying to find exatly where each stand go's can be a little tricky some times where as a rack will eliminate all the guess work.

oh ok
what i was asking was this: is the extra metal you have to lug around worth the convenience of being able to set up your set faster because of the rack?

in some cases yes and the other advantige is how much room you are taking up. when you have very limited space.

Wow that's a lot of cymbals robbie, you'd definitely need a rack for all that.

What are some of the advantages of the Pearl Icon rack over the Gibraltar rack?
