Pulse any good?

I was considering perhaps, purchasing a Pulse Double Bass, as a second drumset. They're cheap, so I can use the rest of my money to get better cymbals. My Ddrum Combat Punx is rather new, and I'm considering mering two of them. However I need a set at home, because my combat punx is at my guitar players house, where we rehearse.

I've always wanted a double-bass, I would have to give up fancy hi-hat tricks, but all the new beats, and the possibility of bass rolls is enough for me. However, I've never seen anyone play them, and I haven't been able to play any myself.

I have enough money for the Export double-bass, but I wouldn't be able to get new cymbals.

Pulse is a decent drum company for entry level kits and cheap hardware like double bass pedals. I think I saw a Pulse double bass pedal for something like $80 which is really unheard of. However, I'm a firm believer of the saying, "You get what you pay for." Sure, it's a double bass but who knows if it'll hold up in time. I'd spend a little more money and get a better double bass if I were you especially if you plan on getting better in the long run and beating the crap out of those pedals.

Yeah, the payoff between price and quality is always a pain. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for yourself when the time comes. I play an export double bass and to be honest, you'd probably be better off getting the cheaper one for now to trade up to something better later.

I'm not sure what wood the pulse is made from but the export is made from poplar which is one of the cheapest woods you can find. It sounds okay but for the money you'd be better off getting a birch sonor or gretsch. Good luck.

if pulse is really much cheaper, get it and modify. I'm sure musician friend has a set of pulse double bass thats going quite cheap. I'll advise you to get that. The reviews say that its a good entry level drum, but if you are really gona bash the crap outta the kit, then it'll be better if you get a more durable and reputable one. Pulse's i heard bring in good entry level kits.

Pretty much evryone here has covered it!!! I do agree although the Pulse is a decent entry level kit, if it's a kit you plan on holding onto for awhile I'd spend alittle more money on another kit. Pearl Exports are nice, but alittle over priced considering the wood composition. Basically you pay for the name with the Pearl. Not putting the Exports down at all as I played a set for YEARS and never had trouble with them. A well built drum but it just lacks in the wood area. You could go with either a Sonor 100% birch or the Mapex M series which is also 100% birch as they are made by the same company (but the Mapex has a lifetime warranty on it's shells) and they are in the same price range as the Exports PLUS they have a nice laquer finish. Tama has the SuperStar series which is nice as well. It really just boils down to what you can afford and what you prefer in a set as well as what you have planned for the set. Either way...... Good Luck!!!

double bass drum? or petals?

I have a nice pair of 2base petals, pulse(to be exact) works great (double chained or wht ever there called) 2bass drums are not needed(tuning and space). I too saved for the cymbals, Witch worked(7 in the last 5 months, with out a "real job")(Im in high school).

do you like differint feels of your bass drums or something?

Have you checked out HB Drums ? I bought a set last year for practice at home. All birch shells. Standard cheap mounting hardware and stands (found on practically ALL lower priced sets). Evans heads, and some spare cymbals, and they sound pretty damn good. The set was $300, with throne, cheap cymbals, and free shipping.
