Buying a Birch kit.

Hey Y'all. I'm considering upgrading my drums but don't have a lot of cash. I've been intrigued by the idea of a birch kit for a while now and I'm looking very closely at the Mapex M birch and the Sonor 2005.

Pros and Cons.

Sonor, better hardware, finishes. Not much choice in drum sizes.

Mapex, free 10" thrown in, slightly cheeper good range of sizes for upgrades. Heavy laquer finish, which I don't want for ease of damage, I prefer wax finishes and I'm not inspired by the colours.

I'm going to check them out thoroughly soon, but I'd like to know if any of you have experience with these kits, other birch kits, or just have any suggestions for my situation.

Ta.

Hey skinslapper,
I was under the impression that the Mapex M cost more than the Sonor 2005. Both are good drum sets in my opinion but from what I've heard, I'd go with the Mapex. It has great tone (from the times I've actually heard one). I really like birch drums in general and if I could choose a new set, I'd go with birch as well, with maple following closely behind.

I was really impressed with the Mapex kits I played both maple and birch. But, I am going with the birch by mapex. I know what ya mean about the colors though. Im going with the transparent emerald green. The fades they put down have too much of a definitive line for me. Best of luck with your choice either way though. Cheers!

Sorry dude. I'm all the way over here in Australia, so the postage would be phenominal. Plus I did some research since posting this, and I'm not too keen on birch anymore.

But thanks a lot for trying to help me out. Good luck with the sale.
