Do you muffle your bass drum?

if so with what?

I use the bass drum pillow that came with my pdp kit. It works very good. However when I change drum heads the next time I want to tune it so I can leave the pillow out.

I do but it is to a very limited exstent. I have already posted how I do it so I hope everyone has read up on it.

but I only muffle the back head and it is with A/C foam and only one strip going half way around the head just to kill that anoying ring but still give it that loud bomming sound.

I've got three bass drums:

1) 14x22, with Aquarian SuperKickI/Regulator combo (pre-muffled heads)

2) 14x20, currently has an Evans muffling pillow, with Remo black dot batter head and Fiberskyn reso head

3) small (26") concert bass drum (not used for drum set) - fiberskyn heads, no muffling

I have the Aquarian Superkick I (pre-muffled head) without any other muffling in my bass drum.

I've got remo powerstroke three on my bass's, with falam pad. No muffling. I have a hard enough time getting a good boom out of them without the pillow.

Thats the same thing I have on my kit, but I found that putting a thicker head on the front will give you a lot more boom and thats why I put the very small amount of muffling on the back head only to give it just a little kick sound to it but still have that booming unmuffled bass sound to it.

I put a pillow in my bass drum to get a dead sound. This is only because currently my drums are in the basement and are very echoey when unmuffled. It's only me listening so I'd rather hear a more articulate bass. When playing for a gig though, I'd remove the pillow and get a boomier bass head like the Powerstroke.
