Aux. Snare

Do you have and aux. or side snare? I have a 3.5"x14" steel piccolo snare. I am also thinking of getting a PDP side snare.

Which ones do you think are the best?

I don't have an auxilarary snare drum but I think it's a cool concept. I'd love to own one and some point and bring in some new sounds. Piccolo snares sound great.

Ive always wanted a strait up marching snare tuned up real high.
Not real sure what I would do with it but Im sure that I would be able to find somthing I would use it in.

I'll bring a 6x10 maple "popcorn" snare on some steel band gigs, especially for the reggae tunes. Sometimes, a 3x13 snare serves the same purpose for me. (The 6x10 is a DIY project with a six-ply Keller shell; the 3x13 is another DIY project, with an old shell rescued from eBay.)

Cool! malletjazz, you have some really creative ways to make drum sounds work with your kit. I'd love to hear what a "popcorn" snare would sound like.

Not bad. It sounds good with your playing but you can tell that it doesn't have much depth.

Thanks, guytae - it's a fun little drum, but it definitely reflects its limited size. Mine is a little more open-sounding than other 6x10 wood snares I've tried, probably because I used such a thin shell. I initially bought the shell with plans to make it into a tom; if I had planned from the beginning to use it for a snare drum, I probably would have gone with a ten-ply shell. Or, I would have kept the shell thickness, but gone with a lesser depth.

Cool my aux. snare is 3x13 too ! It's a REMO piccolo with acousticon shell, very nice sounding with an awesome crack !

I have almost bought these snares in the past but just wasnt sure about them. I would love to get something with that crack to it.
