does anyone here play oak drums? I'm curious to see how they compare to either maple or birch. Someone mentioned them to me when I told them I like a loud punchy sound.. what are the pros and cons of oak? It's not really all that popular compared to the others.
IMHO Oak has GREAT attack and punch but I wouldn't consider them loud per say. Any drum can be loud with the right tuning and how you play them. As for oak though, the sound is more aggressive and will be edgier than maple or birch. Check out the Yamaha Oak Customs to see if you like the sound.
