Re: DW vs. Yamaha

I just sold a set of red sparkle CX's. The Yammy stuff is nice to but the PDP's sounded fuller and fatter to me. I like yamahas tom holder MUCH better though.

Re: DW vs. Yamaha

DW does not make a mx or cx series. You would be talking about Pacific drums. Totally different animal (quality and price). Between the Yamaha and the Pacific, I would take the Yamaha every day.

A better comparison to DW would be the Yamaha Maple Custom or Recording Custom. Both excellent shells. We should all be lucky enough to have one of each! DW has a significant lead when it comes to hardware IMHO

Re: DW vs. Yamaha

Pacific drums is a subsidary company under "Drum Workshop" or also known as DW Drums. The company was founded in 2000 to provide high quality drum equipment for cheaper prices then most DW equipment. The factory is located in Ensenada Mexico. Many professional drummers endorse DW drums including, Neil Peart of Rush, Peter Criss of KISS, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Joey Kramer of Aerosmith.

Re: DW vs. Yamaha

Yup PDP is the import division of DW, but even then I would take a Yamaha over any PDP anyday.

I own both Yamaha and DW and they both sound top notch, but the DW is leaps and bounds better in the hardware catagory.

You are absolutely correct. Many pro drummers do endorse DW drums. I do not know of any that endorse Pacific though.

Re: DW vs. Yamaha

Hey Dolphin EX When you decide to buy a set of drums Look at it this way
DW used to make a great set of drums but since they stopped buying Keller shells the sound isn't there anymore as told to me by 2 Sam ash stores and 2 Guitar Center stores and some friends that have DW. DW drums the new sets are highly overrated and most people on this forum will tell you if you can afford it BUY IT that's a bad move. The DWdrums that are abou 5 years or older are a good move. I'm playing a very long time and I teach as well and help my students select drumsets.Get back to me with what you have to spend and what type of music you play Yamaha is an excellent set and so is Gretsch and there are others Get back to me I would like to help and by the way I've been playing 43 years SLINGERLAND

Re: DW vs. Yamaha

slingerland I will have to respectfully disagree. Keller made DW's shells to DW's standards not the other way around. DW shells are still made to those same standards nothing has changed.
