Roland V-Drum Head Durability

I just bought a Roland TD-20 V-Drum set and was wondering if anyone has ever placed a Falam Slap pad on the bass drum head to protect it? And if so did it change the responce of the trigger? I play Hard Rock and am a heavy hitter and use a DW 5000 Double Pedal with the stock beaters on the felt side. Most of my double bass beats are steady 1/16ths (not machine gun type 1/32nds! Maybe 15-20 years ago I could've pulled them off for a minute or two, but now I'm happy just to do 1/16ths for 3-4 minutes! ) or single bass Bonham-style triplettes. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks...

When I inquired about them at guitarcenter a while back, the guy behind the counter recomended not using a felt beater, because the acids in the cotton will eat away at the mesh heads on your roland. If you have the stock beaters on your 5000, go ahead and turn it around and use the plastic side.

I have had a set for 5 years now. The most important thing is never hit with a felt head. Belive it or not the friction from the batter and the head will cause the head to heat up and melt. Use the batter the kit comes with. I replaced the head, after 4 years of steady gig's. I can tell you these are a tough kit and can take abuse. Just a side note, read the manual all the way through and you will find the controller is amazing. You can set the triggers for cross talk, set speed respose and in the kick case set the re-trigger time, in milli seconds.
