Mapex advice please

Hey guys. Still trying to weigh up whether to go for that pro-m or not.

I spoke to the guy at my shop. They don't deal with Mapex but he tells me he used to and believes the pro-m does not have the same quality shells as the Orion like the website says. He aslo claims they have a tendancy to lose their round earlier than other brand drums.

He might just be trying to sell me something else so I'd like some opinion on quality and longevity on these kits.

Come on Mapex4eva, I know you you've been all over these kits. Give me some advice on these things, wouldya?

Mapex Pro M

I had a mapex V series for 2 and a half years and even though it was a low line i thought it sounded really good. The pro m's i hear are really good. On the reviews I've read people say there one of the more under rated high end sets. I played one once but with stock heads I liked it though.
musiciansfriend.com has a lot of good reviews on the sets if u want to check that out.

Those Mapex kits are BADASS!!! There is an excellent drum shop around here called Don Bennet drum studio. They thech lessons, classes, hold drum clinics, and have an amazing selection of drums owned by famous people. They've got Steve Smiths old kit for sale, among others. Anyhow they teach drum lessons in there, and they use mapex Pro M and M Birch kits for the lessons. Aparently they hold up to constant abuse for years. They sound great too, I played both the Pro M and M Birch, they sound great. The birch has a warmer tone, and the maple is well, maple: super punchy and loud. I am definetly going to get the M birch set soon.
