Pulse Fusion set

i'm looking into getting the pulse fusion (22/10/12/14), musicians friend has it at a really good price. I'm a guitar player not a drummer but I do like having a set around to play around with and learn on & for when friends come over. I mention this because i'm not looking to shell out a big wad of cash on a pro drum set. I know that pulse is beginner drums but I can't find any info on them. I've read reviews for them & they seem to be pretty mixed.... most say good set for beginners, not the best set but good decent for the price, bla bla bla. I'm just wanting a few other opinions on Pulse drums, if there alright or if they're utter trash.

Yeah Pulse is crap, but should be fine for your purposes. If your style is rock though I'd strongly consider getting the standard kit sizes. I know the fusion sizes are a little cheaper, but that "16 floor tom is invaluable for rock drumming.

Yeah, like skinslapper said I think a Pulse would be fine for your purposes because it's basically just to bash out on and not for performances. If you have any thought of maybe using it for gigs or anything I would suggest you spend a little bit more and get a lower end Pacific drum set or something like that. And get some Remo Pinstripes to make the sound a little better.

First, thanks for the info, it's helping me in my decesion.

Here's the full story. I already have a standard 5 piece Ludwig Accent set. I want to expand it into a double bass set. Main problem, my set is blue, & I could only find black & red in Ludwig bass drums. I found a Ludwig Accent fusion shell pack on musicians friend that wasn't much more expensive than a bass drum by itself but only offered in red... my set is blue. Thinking about it a little, even tho the colors are different why not get a fusion set & have a 9 piece set. I finally decided to go ahead & get the red fusion set, go to order it & find out it was discontinued the day before & i couldn't order it. DAMMIT!!! I found the same Fusion set but only with all the hardware & whatnot & it added about 200 bucks to the price, more than i can spend. The only other fusion set I found that was in the same general price range i can afford was the pulse set of course it's only in red too. Now I'm trying to decide if I should get the pulse set to mix with my Ludwigs or save up a little more money, keep looking & maybe find another blue fusion set i can afford.

Have you tried ebay? They usually have a lot of discontinued stuff so you might be able to find a blue Ludwig Accent on there.. plus maybe you can get it used for cheaper.

Yeah, deffiantely do not mix sets together. all the subltle differences in their construction will mean you'll have a lot of different sounding drums that just won't fit together. Believe me, I know from experience.

I took the advice of not mixing sets. I saw where musiciansfrined had a closeout sale on a ludwig standard shell pack, ended up being $10 more than an accent bass by itself. Of course they didn't have it in blue. Luckily one of the local music stores had it in blue & they price matched it for me. Now I have my double bass set & 4 extra drums. I'll try to sell the extra drums on ebay & get some of my money back.

On a side note, Skinslapper, i checke out your band on myspace. I must say ya'll sound great. I'm big into punk & metal. It's nice to hear a real punk band for a change. I'm getting sick of all the poppy "punk" crap that mtv keeps shoving in our faces.

Skullman; I tend to disagree with some of the other comments. The Pulse kit that my son bought was placed next to a Mapex Venus kit. Both of these kits have mahogany shells. The bearing edges on the pulse were far better. The quality, power, & sound out of the Pulse was unquestionably FAR BETTER. I was really surprised. Their not DW's but their not junk drums either. Also, their PULSE PRO-LINE hardware is outstanding. Just try out one of their $39 cymbal stands. Most of the hardware on the market from any manufacturer comes out of the same plant in China or where ever. One other point--Did you ask Musicians Friend if they had the kit you want in Blue??? I'd be surprised if they didn't. The blue wrap is a stock color. Change the heads to Pinstripes or EC-2's or whatever quality head that you like. Even better sound.
Isn't confusion wonderful????
