Thumbs up New drums! Yay!

So I picked up a Mapex Pro M fusion kit today. Can't wait to really play it. I've got the drums in my apartment, threw some EC2's on the toms and gave them a quick tune. MMM, MMMMM! Do they sound nice. I bought them used from a kid whom I assume didn't know what he really had. He said he was going out to get a Pearl ELX kit. Didn't like the maple, I guess. Anyhoo, the finish is a little dinged up, but the shells and more importantly the brearing edges, are in good shape. And the finish color? Tobacco fade. No, I'm not trying to copy you, Skinslapper. I will have to order a 16" tom, as the 14" doesn't quite have the thunder that I want. My kit is almost "there". I won't get to play them untill tomorrow, so I'll take pictures then.

Peace!

I seem to remember you used to go for G2's.

Why the change?
How does it sound?

Yeah, G2's are dope, but I played a DW kit with EC2's on it, and those were some of the nicest sounding toms that I have ever heard. These sound excellent with EC2' on them. Very deep and warm. The EC2's seem more focused than the G2's. Unfortunatly, the kick still has a Powerstroke 3 on it. I'll get an emad next week. I recomend the emad 1 over the 2, by the way. The Emad 2 is too focused for me. Using an emad 2 seems to me like using hydraulics, they completley kill the tone of the wood. The snare came with an almost new Aquarian studio X power dot. I'll probably use it untill it dies.

I'd heard others say they'd put EC2's on on the pro-m because of the how thin the shell was. I'm tempted to do the same when I purchase mine, but, turned off by the prospect of them sounding too thuddy.

Be sure to give us a listen to the new beast ASAP, okay?

Sorry bro, maybe next weekend. My friend took a short video of me doing some punk rock kinda stuff, but his camera takes really s--tty video and audio. It would be dissapointing. I'll see if I can borrow my friends highly decent camcorder next weekend. Hell, maybe I'll buy one.

On those EC2's: I've got em tuned l-o-w And they do have a bit of a thud to them. That goes away with higher tuning. I might recomend staying with the G2's if you like a more open sound. I haven't heard them with this kit, but I would imagine that they would sound great on it.

Hi, joined today mostly because of your Mapex conversations. I just bought a Pro M Fusion in Red Wood Fade, should be here tomorrow. (The finish just came out, I don't know if it's on Mapex's site yet.) I've got some Sabian HHXs to go with it. I figured I'd start with the 14x12 tom, if I need the depth I can go with the 16x16 floor tom, and still have the higher tones for tastiness.

Pyrochazm, that kid had NO clue what he had - I can't believe that Pearl's still sitting on its "#1 drumset in the world!" thing with the Exports - even the M Birch is a superior kit to the ELX, and neither holds a candle to the Pro M.

I'll post photos (and sound if I can get something decent).
