Double Bass Pedal?

Hey, I was wondering what your thoughts were on a double pedal. I was looking at the axis longboard...I've heard some good things about it and they've got a nice long board for heel toe. But I was also looking at iron cobra...not too sure...they're kinda expensive too...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Both Axis & the Snake are good pedals. If price is an issue -maybe take a look at Musicians Friend. They have a line they call Pulse. Their Pro double pedal sells for about $60 bucks. I thought it was one of the best pedals on the market. If you don't like it, just return it within 45 days-full refund.

I've owned the Iron cobra (AKA the tank, the snake, ect) and have played the Axis longboard, and the longboard is truly one of the greats. Expensive, but worth it. The "IC" is great too, (Mike Portnoy uses a pair of tanks) but it is hard to compare to the Axis line. Or the DW 9000 for that matter. If you like that direct-drive feel, but don't want to pay the typical direct-drive price, try the Gibraltar Intruder direct-drive. Excellent pedal. So excelent that I had to buy it.

I own the Tama Iron Cobra Twin pedal. They are very nice pedals, but I do agree that the price can be a little steep. Same goes for the Axis which I believe are even more expensive. I've tried the Axis pedals and really the only features that were better on the Axis we're the longer foot plates and a better drive shaft (Both are big selling point). I personally like the Iron Cobra.

I would suggest going to your local music store and trying them out for yourself. That way you could decide what's right for you.

Does anyone know if the longboard really helps heel-toe a lot. Because thats the main selling point for me, I want to practice with something that I can eventually get really good at heel-toe with. But if I can do heel-toe well with something half the price; I could at least start with a cheaper pedal and work my way up to an axis.

I have cobras and will be getting rid of them for a long board very very shortly....
theres no way on a cobra to adjust the board length.

i personally am wondering this same thing.. but i am pretty sure that i will buy the axis longboards.. they are about 175 each pedal on musiciansfriend.com (I need two singles becasue i have two bass drums) and i think the iron cobras are 120.. but if you've noticed almost every drummer that is insane at double bass, has axis.. just to name a few: Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Nick Barker and Tim Waterson...

Crotia; Musician Friend has always treated me very well. They're inventory seems to be endless. Most of all their customer service seems excellent.
On the downside, be careful on freight rates. Unless you are in a hurry, be sure to ask them to ship it the cheapest way possible. I bought something once that cost about $7. The turkey on the sales desk wanted to charge me aver $14 for freight. I talked to customer service. They had a much lower rate, just not quite as quick. Cost me $2 and change. Took maybe 1 more day.
