Question Life span of a pedal.

I've recently come across a Gibralter double-bass pedal for $300aus and I'm curious as to whether its playability will degrade over time.

I currently own a gibralter double-bass pedal circa '92 that I purchased second hand, so I'm not sure what it felt like as new. I do know however, that right now it feels like crap!

The new one, feels a lot more akin to todays DW's and Pearls, so at the mo' I'm thinking Bargain! But I'm unsure as to whether or not this shop-bought luster will be short-lived.

Twin side beaters, double chain, the whole thing looks pretty tidy and, if nothing else, gibralters' reputation is for sturdiness.

So what do we think fella's. Should I put this on the birthday list or what?

I have the top of the line direct drive from Gibraltar: http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w...m/IMG_0136.jpg

It's dope. I can't attest to it's long term durability, but it's definetly a studly pedal. I think it'll last.

Pedal

That pedal looks like a beast! I like the design of it.

I think any pedal will degrade over time. If you want to keep it like new you might want to try and see if you can buy spare chains and bearings for the pedal and change them every year and a half (or whenever they start to feel bad).

I went on the Gibraltar site and found this for you, so if you like my idea then feel free to check it out.

My first dbl pedals were Gibraltar and they lasted a hell of a long time for the price. It depends alot on how hard you play.I play heels up and have a ridiculous amount of throw on my beaters making the pedal work much harder than say a guy who plays heels down with a tighter beater angle.

I currently have 2 Ghost pedals. 30+ years old. A little cleaning and oiling, and a new beater every once in a while. Still work great. Not the fastest, but they sure were at one time !!

I just fixed an old Pearl p-885 pedal for my practice kit.

It was used when I bought it 10 years ago. The , as Pearl calls it, "Cam Assembly" screw striped out and could not be tightened. This part is the thing that holds the spring and attaches to the axle. It would rub against the post and all of the action was lost. It's been sitting in my shed for years and I'm tired of dragging my regular pedal to my guitarists where my prctice kit is. So what I did was drill a hole all the way through the axle and found a screw that fit snug and it made new threads in the drilled out axle and pretty much made a pin. It's holding pretty good. We'll see how long it lasts.
