HB Predator Anyone out there drumming with the HB Predator series line of drums or know of anyone using them? I've been thinking about getting a 7pc set. I've done quite a bit of research on the shell construction, hardware, etc... and they seem pretty decent. They have a pretty impressive list of clients as well. I was also thinking about the Pearl Forum FX 5pc set. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Take care. Peace out! |

| | I have the 5 piece HB Predator set. Wrapped, not laquered. For the money, it was a great buy. The cymbals suck, but the shells sound good. I replaced the batter heads (G2), and the cymbals (Meinl). I'm also using one of my Acrolite snares. I bought the set as a home practice set, with my Tama's at my buddy;s house. They sound every bit as good. Overall...a pretty good value. Birch shells for less than the cost of name brand entry level sets.

| | I've never heard of HB's before, but hey, if you can get a birch kit for the same price as a Pearl poplar, then go for it.
If you manage to scrape together enough for a poplar export (not the new maple) just remember, they are all the exact same shell. From the forum to the very top poplar export, they are all the same sounding drum kit. |

I had been to the website a few times. But seeing a pile of pictures & reading a pile of manufacturers hype is a long, long ways from one letter from one drummer that actually OWNS a set & likes them. Thank you for the input. Is there any one else out there that owns some HB's??
When some of us own an off brand kit, we tend to be kind of quiet about it. I guess we don't want the DW owners, Pearl masters, and other upper end guys to think poorly of us.
Kind of like trying to sneak your old, beat up, paint peeling '79 chevy through a neighborhood
full of doctors & shiny new BMW's.
It really doesn't matter WHAT you play as long as you enjoy it. We all want a newer, better set-----someday. When it can happen--it will. |

| | | Well...all I can say is they sound good. Believe me, these are not comparable to high end drums. But...they are better than name brand entry level kits for sure. I saw a set of Gretch Blackhawks at a store, and stuff was falling apart on the set ! I have beating the hell out of these, at home...and they are holding up well. Not sure they would take the rigors of playing out a lot. HB also has some higher end models, but havent seen them in person. They look great on the website. Again....a great value in my opnion.

HB The pic you posted, isnt even close to what my HB's look like. Hardware completely different, lugs, mounts, etc. Never heard of DB, but as far as I know, the HB (Huntington Beach) drums are made in China, not Taiwan. But whats the difference ? Decent value at a low price. I'm sure there are other low end drums that are a pretty good value...I guess the point is, if you are gonna buy low end stuff, why would you pay more to have a Ludwig, or PDP sticker on them?
