Why do you have to poll, and what is the result of the outcome going to be?
Realise with any poll the outcome is only going to be based on individual members thoughts and what members actually have experience with, which would give an inaccurate result on the topic. Sorry i think polls a waste of time.

Reality is, any choice between any make or material (of any drum gear) is going to be an individual one made from trying the items to see how they perform/ sound.

To be pedantic the drum finish such as wrapped or laquered is going to affect drum sound. In my opinion drum head selection has the biggest factor to how a drum will sound, followed by how it is played.

I have a birch kit which appears to me as a bit more focused than others and make great drums for recording, miking up, playing hard in live situations. As i said head choice can alter it's performance drastically.

This link may help ?

Plagarised from above Sort of sums it up.

" Many people describe Maple as being "warm" and even in its frequency response. Birch is often described as "bright," because it produces more high end than Maple. The bottom line is, like most musicians, we can get pretty intense about our equipment. Because of this, we hear minute little differences that most normal people would never distinguish. Any of these woods, with the exception the lauan that budget drums are made of, will produce an equally wonderful tone. If you have certain preferences about the frequency response for your drums, choose accordingly. "

If you can't take some well meaning critism, your life as a drummer is going to be tough one my friend.

Mature attitudes will keep this forum from a downhill slide like many others have .
My point is, there is no point to your poll which is only an opinion, what do the rest of you forum members think?

Note that i took liberty to add constructivity to my post with helpful advice for you, take it or leave it.

Sticks and stones can create nice sounds, names will never hurt me.

Play nicely you two! I personally prefer Maple as I'd like to start with all the tones and then remove the one's I don't want with heads and tuning.

If any of you get the chance, try a Brady Jarrah kit. Very similar to maple but has a slightly faster decay and more attack. Love it.

To be fair, the question asked could not have been answered in a poll. There was no intent to defame anyone in my answer, it was an opinion, i thought helpful. The retalitory dig was unnecessary, and proved nothing other than the topic starter needing to broading the thinking process. End of story.

The Australian Brady drums, wern't they made by lathing out solid logs?

My maple Slingerlands are louder and are very versatile . My birch Predator kit are more deeper sounding and warmer sounding.
