Bass Drum Help!!!

I know all of the sizes i want for my drums (8x10, 9x12, and 12x14) but i still don't know what size kick drum i want...
I am stuck between a 20x20, or an 18or16x22... the 20x20 would be nice because i could have my toms 2 inches lower than the 22in kick but i am not sure on sound quality???
Is there THAT big of a difference between the 20 and the 22?

If anyone can tell me the differences between these kick drums or any other information on bass drum sizes I will be VERY thankfull.

Yes,you will get a bit more depth and low end from the 22.It will rely heavily on your choice of head though and tuning.I know guys with 22" but they might prefer a tighter head response which will naturally elevate the pitch on your drum. What type of music do you play?

That recording isn't that bad.I would go with the 22".You have more options. You can't get the low end of a 22 with a 20,but you can make a 22 sound like a 20,you know?

yah but..

if i get the 20 inch then my toms can be 2 inches lower, which would be pretty cool, because it would make it easier to play.

In all seriousness,if you are ready to buy a kick drum based solely on the fact that your toms will be 2 inches lower, then you are not too concerned with sound and should just get the 20.I prefer the most depth and bottom end I can get when it comes to a bass drum.Hence the name bass drum.If you want low toms, mount them on a tom arm holder on a stand and forget mounting them on the bass drum whatsoever.Just my opinion man.But hey,I'm 6'5".I have my toms mounted on a scaffold.lol.

I would deffinately have my toms on a seperate mount... i hate them attached to the bass drum, thats what i have right now and i don't like it... maybe i could have the two high toms off to the left of the bass drum? idk... i think i'm going to Skips music today so i'll see if i can set up the pork pie kit with the 20 inch bass and see how big of a difference the two inches really is. thanks for the advice though!

I personally would go with the 22. You can make them sound like the 20 but you can't make the 20 go that low. It partially depends on what sort of sound you go for in your band. Either the bass guitar or the bass drum needs to occupy the lowest frequencies. With a 20 you'll have to give it to the bass guitar, which isn't a bad thing. That's how I mix with my band and it sounds pretty good.

Mounting the toms seperate gives them a more independant sound. I find you have to watch the stand legs are manouvered to keep the tom balanced when stand mounted, but it is a great option. I use heavy duty stands. For the same reason i opted for the 20" kick and have no regrets, i mike up if i need volume, it's a great we drum. If i were to use double kick pedal a 22 would likely be a better option (or another drum). I have power toms and am 5'4 ( i refuse to grow up). The toms will fit on the kick drum when tilted at an angle and having Tama omni mounts makes it a breeze. Having said that i am only using a 10 and 12" on the kick. Any bigger and i'll revert to stand mounts.
