The tone of the wood snaire isn't quite as bright or cutting as the metal one we have at Church that's the same size, and I have them tuned to about the same note, so I'm assuming the difference is in the drum material, but I'm not a real expert on that. Someone else with more experience might have better insight into the sonic differences between wood and metal snaires than me.

I like wood over metal usually.

right now in life(my friend has the same snair side and type of metal) i feel like im ok with the styles music im playing, and my snair is used in the style of music im playing. but later i might take ur advice and buy a wooden snair(especialy if im going into more funkish styles).

As is with everything...it's personal preference.I have never played a "metal" snare be it a brass, steel or whatever.I still have the brand new 14" steel shell that came with my Stage Customs.I have heard nice sounding brass and steel picollo snares but once you get over 13 inches they sound like crap imo.I have a buddy that bought the Lars diamond plate dealy and I always rag him that its the worst sounding snare. He hates it.If you like the bite and bright, brash sound,go for it.I can get a gnarly snap and mondo brightness from my wood snares with a good head and a well tuned drum.It is just a more natural sound to me.I would think they would work well in some recording conditions. Hey,Danny Careys' kit is ALL BELL BRASS!!
