I think even with the cheapest of set of drums a good set of heads can make a bit of a difference. My first set was pretty cheap with only 5ply mohogany shells and the heads that came with it were junk. The snare head was surprisingly sturdy, sounded good, etc... I bought some
Remo clear pinstripes with a Powerstroke 3 coated snare head and the set sounded much better with some serious boom out of the 22" kick bass and the 16" floor tom. The
Remo Powerstroke 3 I didn't care for too much. It just didn't have the 'snap', 'rat-tat' sound. I believe it's more of a studio snare sound. But now I'm waiting for my new set to come in that comes with
Evans G2's. Never played
Evans and I've been a
Remo fan for quite sometime. We'll see what happens (or hear what happens).
Peace out!!
