Thumbs down PLEASE: Pdp x7 or Sonor Force 2007?!?

Hey everybody. I'm gonna be buying a new set here soon and I would greatly appreciate some help on which one I should purchase. I've narrowed my decision down to 2 and they are:

Pacific drums by DW X7 7-piece shell pack

OR

Sonor Force 2007 Stage 2 Shell pack w/ free 8 inch tom

I'm into the jam band scene and stuff like tool also so which one is the smartest choice with the best quality?

the sonors look pretty good. but yet i know that you will not regret bying the pdp x7. and plus it comes with another floor tom so thats good for you and its also cheaper =]

Well i will give you two things you should consider. Do you want more drums or slightly higher quality. the PDPs are poplar (which suprisingly i dnt thin ksounds bad at all IMO) or you can go with the 2007s which are birch which is my favorite wood. If you want longer fills and more verstility, go with the PDPs, if you want a lisghtly better quality of wood, then go with the 2007s. Both are good kits and you should be happy with both either way.

I have a sonor 3005, love it... a lot. But between the 2k series and x7's, I'd take teh x7 If it were a 3007, lol, I'd probably recommend the 3007. X7's are perty frickin nce though so yea, X7 ftw

Given the different wood types you're interested in, I'd strongly suggest you go and play these kits to determine whether you prefer birch or poplar.

That aside, I'd go for the Sonor. I can't see that there'd be any difference in quality, the sonor comes in laquer finishes and Danny Carey plays Sonor.

Without hesitation I'd go with SONOR Force 2007. I think SONOR birch is probably better grade wood than PDP poplar. They now have lacquer birch shell finish instead of the 2005 satin finish. Many size available to choose for expansion and SONOR quality which PDP may not even be on par with.

Now do your homework, go play them and inspect them under every angles.

Good luck

Re: PLEASE: Pdp x7 or Sonor Force 2007?!?

Definately check 'em out side by side as I did. I spent literally hours at a local Guitar center setting up and tearing down kit after kit in this range. IMO, poplar hardwood had much the same tonal qualities ie; high end attack with a punchy low end presence. I played Pacific FS all birch toms and kick drums along side the poplar X7s and I was HARD pressed to tell the difference! I removed drumheads on the 6 different kits I checked out to inspect the shell interiors for build quality,ie: flat spots on bearing edges, poor hole drilling, attention to detail etc. Pacific won in EVERY aspect! The build quality on the X7 is excellent! The shell harware and STM mounting (a dw goodie) is flawlessly plated. The sound... Well, let's just say it has Drum Workshop built into it. That's due to the pro cut 45degree bearing edges which are sharp and even on all drums. I put the 6 kits I tested through the ringer and the Pacific X7 has it all! Sound, build quality, 6 sparkle fade LACQUER finishes and Drum Workshop standing behind it all! 7pcs. 2 floor toms, the best sounding IMO, stock snare drum for how much??? $700! Check 'em out.. but yeah, compare 'em look at EVERY angle! Peace and good luck! Let us know what you go with!
