Definately check 'em out side by side as I did. I spent literally hours at a local Guitar center setting up and tearing down kit after kit in this range. IMO, poplar hardwood had much the same tonal qualities ie; high end
attack with a punchy low end presence. I played
Pacific FS all birch toms and kick drums along side the poplar X7s and I was HARD pressed to tell the difference! I removed drumheads on the 6 different kits I checked out to inspect the shell interiors for build quality,ie: flat spots on bearing edges, poor hole drilling, attention to detail etc.
Pacific won in EVERY aspect! The build quality on the X7 is excellent! The shell harware and STM mounting (a
dw goodie) is flawlessly plated. The sound... Well, let's just say it has Drum Workshop built into it. That's due to the pro cut 45degree bearing edges which are sharp and even on all drums. I put the 6 kits I tested through the ringer and the
Pacific X7 has it all! Sound, build quality, 6 sparkle fade LACQUER finishes and Drum Workshop standing behind it all! 7pcs. 2 floor toms, the best sounding IMO, stock snare drum for how much??? $700! Check 'em out.. but yeah, compare 'em look at EVERY angle! Peace and good luck! Let us know what you go with!
