Snare help!

Okay, I'm looking for a new snare for my kit. I play metal, so I want something with a big crack, but also a bit of depth. I went to the local drum store today and tried a few out different ones. I found that I like the Pearl Semitone Elite *especially the Aluminium one* series quite a bit and they are in my price range. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these snares? Do you think they would suit what I want to do? Know of any snares in the 300-500$ (AUS) mark that you think would suit what I want?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Snare help!

I recently got a Pearl Maxwin drum set from the 70's, and it came with a snare, looks pretty old, but the previous owner had removed the label off of it. So im not sure if its the original snare with the kit, because the label on the kit is rectangular, and I can see that the label on the snare was oval. So does anyone know what snare could have came with that kit?? Its red and sparkly and its 14" wide and its about 6" deep. Any help would be great.
