Re: Starter Drum Set

If those are the new Rogers made by Yamaha, they get pretty horrible reviews.
Try the Yamaha Rydeens instead or a Taye.

YAMAHA RYDEEN RED - (eBay item 260193138100 end time Dec-14-07 23:03:08 PST)

Yamaha Rydeen Standard 5-Piece Drum Set - Racing Green - (eBay item 250191084811 end time Dec-22-07 18:31:03 PST)

Yamaha Rydeen Standard 5-Piece Drum Set - (eBay item 320059975103 end time Jan-02-08 15:04:12 PST)

Taye drums w/ hardware, cymbals, & extras! - (eBay item 230202409241 end time Dec-16-07 06:23:02 PST)

Re: Starter Drum Set

I'd try a Taye set. I think they sound good and they aren't that expensive.

Re: Starter Drum Set

If $700 is the budget for just the set...iono, but I'd have to recommend a pdp x7, perty much teh best kit in its price bracket.
For cymbals...even for the set, get to some local music shops and start hittin' stuff

rogers was good(when it wasnt bought by that company, which are you selling?)Also PdP x7 is not a beginers kit(sounds great) but you want to experiment with cymbals(I know i am a cymbal junkie, i have 14 and usaly just use 10) Ill find a kit or look...

Buy Pulse MX-005 5-Piece Pro Junior Kit online at Musician's Friend

Re: Starter Drum Set

about the paulse, yes. The X7 is live giving a new born a coppy of "law and punishment" and telling him to read(not calling him a new born).I just think he should save up for cymbals, can YOU live with out a china. It is a great kit(LAP is a good book) but its more advanced.
I say go to the music store and find a fushion kit or a 12 13 16" tom kit.
A used kit can be just as helpfull... here is a good website for used kits(i saw a $100 kit with a Zildjian splash, that has to be at least $100 alone).

Re: Starter Drum Set

I used to be a big pulse fan. They make pretty good starter sets. Good bearing edges and all that stuff. The hardware that comes with their sets, however, is made from old beer cans. (Budweiser-Yuk!!) If you buy their Pro-Line hardware it is excellent. It will go just fine with a fer better beginner product from Getsch. The "Catalina" series. The Maple Catalina kit is a killer. It currently comes with a free 16"x 16" floor tom as well as the standard 14"x 14" that is already in the kit.
It makes a very nice kit. Even if you're not just starting out. The interior plies are all Birch and are beautiful. The bearing edges are far better than on my PDP kit.
you could but the same Pulse Pro-line hardware to go along with it and you would have a great and bulletproof kit for any kind of music.
