Adding a floor Tom oppinions

I've got a Gretsch Catalina Birch 5 piece set in fusion sizes, I've been thinking about getting a 16 X 16 floor tom to add to the 10" & 12"(rack), and 14"(floor) toms that are on the kit now. The floor tom is a $200.00 investment. I'm just wondering how many of you have a second floor tom, and if so how much do you use it. Should I go for the floor tom, or upgrade a cymbal. If given a one or the other choice which would you do? My current cymbals do need upgrading also, I've got a ride I like (a Sabian HH 20" Classic), but I'm still using B8 Hats and 16" B8 Crash. So with an extra $200 in the bank which would you do, add the floor tom, or upgrade the Crash?

No one here has an oppinion or suggestion on this?

Re: Adding a floor Tom oppinions

Well, I have two floor toms (14 and 16), and I find the deeper tom useful for bass/tom linked triplets. It's fairly subjective - if you play rock, and like to vary your fills, the second tom can add to the overall atmosphere. Then again, a good crash is always a fine investment.

BamBam thanks for the input. Well since Gretsch has discontinued this set I've decided to go ahead and order the floor tom while it is still available. I can pick up the new Crash anytime in the future, but I didn't want to be wishing that I had order the Tom while I still could.

Good reasoning there. I hadn't realised the Catalinas had been discontinued.
