I recently added a second 16 X 16 floor tom to my formerly 5 piece Gretsch Catalina kit (in fusion sizes), and it has really opened up the sonic possibilities of the kit. Having the extra floor tom to cover the low end, I slightly raised the pitch of the other Toms, so now not only do I have the added low end of the new floor tom, put I've added a little brighter sound to the higher toms. I'm really glad I bought the floor tom when I found it available on line (Gretsch and discontinued the birch line, so they aren't available from the factory any more). It's nice to be able to do a four Tom fill also. I didn't think I would use the second floor tom much, but now that I have one I'm worried about over using it, and becoming dependent on it, being there.
