Hi everyone - This is my first post - I just joined the forum.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me to determine what I should be paying for this DW Collector's Series snare drum. The retailer is asking $480. It's not absolutely new in that it's been rented out for 5 hours or so. The drum itself is in mint condition - I would probably change the heads out anyway.

It depends. Are you in the U.S? If so(and if you can get all the particulars of the drum, i.e. shell material, size, finish, hardware options), maybe call some place like Drums on Sale, Americas Percussion Store and ask them for a quote.
Before I expanded my DW kit, I check at a locally owned large music store and at Guitar Center and was able to save about 10% by getting the extra drums for my set from drums on sale.

After all, what's a phone call cost?

I would look into it, but I think that's pretty resonable price for that snare.
