pdp platinum series?

Hey team, I already posted about this once but I want to try again. The thing is, I want a pdp platinum series set, but I cant decide if I should get the snare, bass, one high tom, and one floor tom; or if I should get two floor toms and no snare. I cant really afford both. I know the kit snare drums are alot of times not that great, but I'm kindof thinking this snare could be pretty nice, plus it would be sonically matched to the kit or whatever, not to mention it would look great with the kit. Also does anyone if there is a maple pdp series that is similar or same quality as the platinum series, but maybe an older model? That might save me some money, cause I dont have to have the newest, hottest kit, I just want the highest quality in pdp.I'd really appreciate any help or oppinions! thanks!

Re: pdp platinum series?

Go to the music store try the platinum snares(I know 2 pdp kits, they both use the kit snares), and do you like your present snare????

Re: pdp platinum series?

The store didnt have any platinum snares, but I went ahead and put a payment on a platinum kit 5 piece without a snare. Its looks gourgeous and even with the light tuning of it in the store it sounds incredible! I'll try to put some pics up when I get it. thanks for the response.

Re: pdp platinum series?

The platinum kits just replaced the PDP LXE series this year.
It looks like the main difference is the new lugs and different finish options (they used to offer Kurillian Birch, birdseye maple, or Tiger Ash.)
I have last year's model LXE kit in Kurillian birch. It came with a snare but I don't use it either. I love these drums, man! BTW, I'm not sure what heads they are coming with now, but the DW factory heads are usually pretty crappy. Evans EC2s sound killer on mine.
Definitely a good buy! Here's mine:

Re: pdp platinum series?

I spoke with a DW rep the other day and he told me to keep ahold of my LXE kit(see pics below)because the Kurillian kits are in very high demand, but due to the cost of the exotic veneer they apply to those kits, it is not cost effective to make, so they are just making them available in the DW series, he said Kurillian kits are worth about 2000 for a standard 5 piece, and will just continue to climb, I thought that was a very good news.

Here is my kit.

Re: pdp platinum series?

Hi guys. Some of you look familiar.

Here's my Platinums. I don't have the snare, unfortunately.

BTW, I finally got the stock heads to sound pretty good. So I'm going to stetch them for a while.
