Re: Starter drum set

How long have you been playing? How much do you play, how hard do you play, what style music etc.......

I hate to see people that are serious about playing go out and buy a "starter" then have a hard time getting rid of it to upgrade.

Whether you plan on playing every day or you just started and really don't play yet, go to Craigslist and buy a decent used hit that you can add on or or sell later if you stop or want a pro grade kit. If your patient, you'll find a steal and be very happy.

You decide what brand you like based on quality and sound. A cheap set is just that, a cheap set that will be made poorly and not sound good.

On another note, 2 kids up the street from me just started playing. They have both kits set up in the garage. The humidity around here has been around 85%-95% for 2 weeks. Can't wait to see the oval shells! They'll look like "north" drums from the 70's.

Good luck, if you want more detailed info on different kits ask away, everyone here likes to help, and no-one bashes another players likes and dislikes, unlike other boards.

For $500 I would check around for used sets, you can get a better set for the money buying used. If you can't find a used set in your area in that price range, then you are looking at a Chinese made kit, check out PDP, Gretsch Blackhawk, CB percussion, They are all going to be fairly similar in quality in that price range if you go with one from a reputable company.

Re: Starter drum set

I've put it up here before, but I got a 6 peice Yamaha Stage Custom with throne, 4 cymbals, hi hats and hardware for $600, brand new on Craigs list. 3 mounted toms 1 floor tom. I sold the Zildjians on ebay and bought Paiste's etc etc etc. All said and done, I have another snare, 7 cymbals, hats, hardware, 7 mics, mixer, nanoverb etc all for around $1500 without steppingimto a store, and all within 8 months. It's not hard to do, just be careful what you buy. I have nouveau lugs and they stopped making them, so buy something you can sell, or add on to. Good luck.

Im looking at a Pearl 6 peice drum set with a crash, a hihat, and all the hardware for $650.
Im going to try to get the price lower to $300. I found it online for $600 brand new.
