I've played on
Tamas and
Pearls and the answer is it really depends on what you play. If you're a rocker, go with
Tama (famous heavy rock/metal drummers like Lars Ulrich from Metallica and Mike Portnoy from DT use
Tamas). If you want something well rounded and versatile for all styles,
Pearl is the way to go. They're famous for versatility, and legends like Dennis Chambers endorse
Pearl. As for your cymbals, make it a priority to stay away from the b8 lines. Like ZBT, ZXT, and ZHT from
Zildjian, they work...but that's about it. I like the AAX line from
Sabian; they're really modern and bright, but just that's my preference. The AA line is a more traditional cymbal.
