Re: my hi-hat doesn't open/close What did you adjust before it stopped working? I would try undoing whatever it is you did. Without actually being able to examine it, it's hard to tell what is causing the problem. |

Re: my hi-hat doesn't open/close tighten the screw that holds the rod and top hat together...or on the bottom where the lower rod connects to the chain/pedal. |

Re: my hi-hat doesn't open/close I am hard on Hi Hats. This has happened to me many times. The usual cause is the thin rod that your cymbals are clamped to has come undone. Take your cymbals off and turn the rod clock wise until it becomes tight. Use your foot pedal to make sure it moves up and down. Then put your bottom cymbal back on and then your top tightening it to the rod. You can adjust the gap the size you like or close the gap all togather.
This should take care of it. Please let us know!

So if it seems I'm talking beneath your level, I apoligize, but lets start from the beginning: Take the cymbals off, does the rod move up and down now when you depress the pedal? If it does set the bottom cymbal on. Place the top cymbal over it with the set screw that holds the clutch (the apperatus that holds the top cymbal to the rod that passes through) to the rod very loose. The rod should move up and down freely inside the clutch. Depress the pedal so the rod goes down about an inch and 1/2. Then tighten the set screw on the cluth with the pedal still depressed. When you release the pedal does it lift the top cymbal off of the bottom? If it does you're all set.
If the rod doesn't move up and down when you depress the pedal with the cymbals removed, it has probably become detached inside the tube, and is jammed in there. There is a top and bottom half to the tube the cymbals rest on. with the cymbals off, loosen the nut the allows you to adjust the height of the high hat cymbals, by raising and lowering the top half of the tube. Then pull the tube straight up and off. inspect the rod, it two is in two pieces that screw together in the middle. Did the rod become unscrewed, and are the pieces separated? If so screw the top half of the Rod back onto the bottom half, and replace the upper tube that goes over the rod. Replace the cymbals and adjust as outlined above.
I hope this helps, and you can figure it out, I tried to explain it as simply as possible. |
