Your toms

How many toms do you have? How many are mounted? How many have legs? (floor toms) What are their dimensions? Which one is your favourite? Etc.

Re: Your toms

This is the area where my wish list varies most from my reality. I've got lots of cymbals but I NEED more toms. I played for years with just a 13" tenor tom and 16" floor tom. I've got two more mounted toms now for practice -- very cheap generic toms which are really placeholders for new toms to come (some day).

I'd like at least another floor tom (I'd play one on each side), and two or three good mounted toms. Once upon a time I used to have timbales and roto-toms. They'd be nice extras, but I'd settle for high quality toms first.

Re: Your toms

I have a total of four toms
8",10",12" RIMS style mouted toms
15" floor tom with

They have been perfect in all drumming situations...

I used to play a Slingerland Lite series 12, 13 rack toms and 16 floor
I also had some timbalitas (sp?) from LP with that kit. I mounted them under
my hi-hat stand at the time. I loved that kit but I don't miss it anymore. With the
way I tune my drums the small ones sound deep enough for me.

When I eventually get my pearl vision series kit I plan to order an additional 14" and 18" floor tom off of massmusic.com I don't Know what it is about floor toms but I just can't get enough of them

Re: Your toms

5 total. 8 & 10" are on stands. 12 & 13" are fixed to the kick and a 16" floor tom. And of course, Remo pinstripes on top and Remo clear Ambassadors on resonant. Would like to get a second floor tom (15") to round it out but I'm good for right now.

I couldn't agree more. I think my love of floor toms comes from early orchestral playing...I loved making huge swelling tympani rolls. I've never even seen an 18" floor tom. I bet that's the next best thing to having a small tymp.

Re: Your toms

12, 13 mounted 14, 16 on floor.

I'm loving the sound of my rack toms latey, but I wish I could get my floor toms to sound sharper. Evans g2 on tom and G1 on bottom (If you haven't tried it yet I thoroughly recomend it).

I might like to do away with the 14 and get an 18, when I can afford a pdp platinum, but there'll always be something.

Oh and I used to have roto-toms, but I've since got a roland td-6 and some pads that can match the sound and a whole lot more.

How exactly do you mean sharper?
What is it doing that you don't like?
Too many overtones, not enough stick definition?
