For a good pop/crack, like Jim said, it may be the shell material as part of tat sound, steel or brass would be my guess as well...
But for head selection I'd lean towards the
Evans HD Dry with reverse power dot on the batter side, and a
Evans Snare-side G1. You may want to look into different snare wires too that are less buzzy and give a more focused "crack" sound... Heavier gauge wires tend to have less buzz and more punch, but are less sensitive, so you may need to play with that one a bit.
