Seating Position for Bass drum?

Hey everyone, I just signed up here to ask this question and to browse the forums a bit.

I'm definitely a beginner drummer, my drum set is a *cough* first act *cough* set. But it does it's job (barely). Anyways, I was at a guitar/drum shop the other day (I play guitar) and they had an electric drum set which was awesome! I was messing around on it for a bit and the kick drum was set to far right. Say you're sitting straight looking at your computer screen, place your right foot to your side a bit and then move it forward (hope you got the idea). That would be where the kick drum is. Would this be the proper position to play the kick drum? I know some would probably say that it depends on what you're comfortable with, or depends on the drummer. But I gotta say it felt comfortable and I was a bit more quicker with it. I pretty much suck at it, but I feel like I've gotten a lot better.

Also it might have to do with the kick pedal itself right?

Anyways, feel free to share what kind of techniques/advice you may have.

Re: Seating Position for Bass drum?

That's pretty much where mine is.

I think of it this way, if my snare is between my legs, that's my centre, my right leg is obviously going to be to the right of that so I try to keep the elements of my leg (thigh calf foot) as straight as possible to provide max power to the pedal.

And the bass technique you use will be another factor to consider. Some drummers sit close to the snare and have their bass drum(s) in tight because they're playing with the balls of their feet. I play with my heels down and I've got long legs, so I'm comfortable with the bass drums far off to the sides and ahead of the snare a fair distance.
