Help w/ premier 2000 snare tensioning I'm hoping someone can help me with my recently purchased 1974 vintage Premier 2000. I tried tuning it up after replacing the heads, but after putting the double 12 snare wires back on, I couldn't get enough tension on the snares. So I figured they might be a little stretched out, so I ordered the 19 strand Puresound replacement snares, and have the same problem. I have tightened the two screws holding the snares on each end of the throwoff as tight as I can, which is probably the wrong thing to do. When I was younger I would have taken the whole thing apart to figur it out, and probably !*#@ed it up completely. Yes, the snares were buzzy when I got it, but I didn't bother with any diagnostics, as I just wanted to get the heads changed. Anyone with any ideas about what might be wrong, or what I've done wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. rr |

Re: Help w/ premier 2000 snare tensioning Hi all, not sure how old this thread is or whether the original poster got a reply that helped, but I had the same issue, and the answer is pretty simple.
The Premier 2000 has a neat but slightly more complex way of holding the strainer wires against the snare-side head. Each side of the drum (on the throw-off and the opposide edge) has two adjustments - one which is a big screw which is finger-adjusted to tighten or loosen the level of strain being put on the wires, and two small screws on the base of each mechanism, over which the holes in the end of the strainer wire fit. The throw-off is linked on each side via something called a Flowbeam, which in practice means that when you flip the throw-off down, each end of the strainer wire is lifted clear of the head. Most snare throw-offs stretch the wires around the head, the Premier 2000 mechanism holds the wires against the head.
Everything needs loosening (and the throw-off released) to fit the strainer wire on, but where the problem comes is when you over-tighten the small screws after fitting the wires. This will cause the ends of the wires to be pulled past the level of the skin, and the wires will naturally bow in the center away from the head, and give the impression of being over-stretched.
Loosen the throw-off, release some of the tension in the side-screws, and then adjust the small screws so that the wires lay flat against the snare-side head when the throw is engaged. Once this is achieved, leave those screws alone, and sdjust the tension via the two larger screws on the sides.
OK - off to introduce myself now on the main board!
Ciao

Re: Help w/ premier 2000 snare tensioning Does anyone know where to get a new set of those Premier 12 wire snares? Thanks.
