Hey Slingerland--compare apples to apples-- the 3007's are the mid-grade Sonor and the Reference series are Pearl's top end kit. The price difference is significant as well, the Pearl Reference cost way more than 3007's.

But to answer your question, given the shells and hardware, the Pearl Set sounds better. BUT if you compared it to say, a Sonor Delite or SQ2, there is no comparison-- the Sonors sound better.

I'd say a better comparison would be Pearl Master's or maybe Studio Session to the 3007's in terms of sound and price.

^ Id agree, although Id personally point out that the 'sound' is not necesarily where they differ. Indeed, a Force 3007 can sound better than a Masterworks if the drummer playing the Masterworks has no clue how to make his gear work for him regarding tuning, application, etc.

Better quality kits usually always sound BIGGER though - More projection, better resonance, greater levels of sensitivity and tuning versatility. The Pearl would win in this regard.

Thats why whenever I try out a kit, I grab the tuning key before I grab the sticks
