Re: How is Gretsch?

Butter if I were you I would take Tainojim's advice on Gretsch I'm not saying anything bad about the other ones who replied but he seems to know alot about them and before I would buy Gretsch I would PICK HIS BRAINS APART. Look under American Musical Supply.com If your interested in yamaha they have a Tour Custom with a free rack as a gift Look under Yamaha Drums in the search box the price is really good I priced that set and you do get the Rack for free. Good luck and let me know what you think. SLINGERLAND

What brains, I don't have anything left inside this coconut.

I even have a small bald spot to prove it.

Over 33 years of marriage, and you think I have any brains left.

33 years of marriage huh? My guess is that the missus chipped away at at least some of that gray matter.

Gray happens to be the first sign of maturity. But in my case, I had the be-jesus scared out of me.

Re: How is Gretsch?

Jimi what do you think about the Catalina Maple or Birch the reviews are really good and the price is even better.Would you say in your opinion that they are probably the best set of drums that are not made in the U.S. I'm talking about Gretsch opposed to the other makes like Yamaha. Not the model but the name Brand.

Re: How is Gretsch?

I wouldn't take it that far. For example, over seas brands like Sonor, Latin Percussion, make some really great stuff.

Lots of other drum companies that are in South America have really great kits too.

Japan's got some pretty tight lumber and so does Africa.

Drums are like trees (no lumber pun intended), their only as good as the trees they come from. Unless you like acrylic.

I haven't tried many kits out of the U.S. but I have heard lots of great kits from abroad (again no broad, pun intended).

Catalinas have a nice rich tone, and hardware for drums not made abroad.

Re: How is Gretsch?

Having just bought (put a deposit on) a Catalina maple and prior experience owning one, I can say that for the money vs. what you are getting.. the Gretsch Catalina maple is probably one of the better values out there today. They didn't get to be Gretsch's top selling kit and prolly one of the better selling intermediate priced set ups on the market today by being mediocre. Sure there are better sets out there, but for around the $7-800 range they are tough to beat!

Thumbs up Re: How is Gretsch?

I have a Gretsch Catalina Maple.............I only bought one because of the good things I heard. I have a buddy that plays one in a local group. They sound great. So with that I just did the google thing and read. All of the reviews were positive. The usa drums are nothing but the absolute best. I am Gretsch fan and I have played DW and Pearl too. These fit the budget. For the money I am all for it.
