Mapex Saturn or...

I am considering buying a Mapex Saturn. I was looking at a five piece fusionese. Any opinions on those? I am also looking at a Yamaha Recording Custom, but its overtones were a bit high for me. Out of those two, what would you guys recommend? Any other kits that you would recommend over those two for around $1000-1500? Thanks.

Hey hoobs did you look at Sonor 3007 Maple or Sonor Birch Sonor makes excellent drums, and you get a 6 piece set for what you want to spend. Look it up on e-bay or Musicians friend, has alot of sets you can see. Let me know what you decide and GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND

I have never played a Mapex, but I know for a fact that the Recording Custom is a top notch set. They can ring too much with the wrong heads on them though.

Lets put it this way. The Recording Custom is THE most recorded drum set. You can't go wrong with the Yamaha. I'd take it in a heartbeat over the Mapex. It's the kit Dave Weckl, Carter Beauford, Manu Katche, Matt Cameron, Steve Gadd, not to mention Billy Cobham have played...

If you like any of the above drummers, chances are you were listening to Yamaha Recording Customs....

pinstripes with E-rings thats what I used on my last kit (recording custom), Ec2s might work with out the rings.

The reason I switched is because I could afford a custom kit, more drums then I needed and my wood type didn't have a 18" floor (so my dream kit wouldn't be complete).

Yikes! Did that make ANY sound at all?

j/k

I think Don is on the money with this one. Mapex Saturns are AWESOME kits, and great value, but the Yamaha Recording Custom is a proven workhorse.

Thanks for the help. I ended up getting the Yamaha Recording Custom. It is a 4 piece (10", 12", and 15" toms), and a 22" kick drum.
