What do you think of this snare drum?

Picked up a one of a kind Noble and Cooley snare drum, what do you think?

It is a 6" x 14" cast aluminum shell with solid brass hardware (throw off and butt plate as well as lugs) with brass plated hoops. It was specially made for Dave Joyal of Metalcore, Drowningman and Silent Drive (he has a Noble & Cooley Endorsment).

BTW, I aksed Dave to swing in, check out DSC and say hi. When he does be sure to give him a shout.

Pretty nice. Tube lugs - oh yeah!!
How old is it?
I'll have to check Dave Joyal out - the name doesn't ring any bells with me. . .
Nice find!

Silent Drive has a Myspace or Facebook page (can't remember where I saw it now) that you can go to to listen to their sound. If you like Lamb of God, Silent Drive will be to your liking also. Not sure how old it is, but my guess would be inside of 10 years sometime.

Re: What do you think of this snare drum?

Nice snare, he recently was selling an old kit of his, 12 18 22x20, which drove me crazy and I've now decided I really want to get a N&C Kit when I get the money... Recently I even helped setup a former kit of his, with 10" 14" toms.

I feel like I one of the few that has heard of Joyal here, it probably helped being from the town where Drowningman was based out of. The interesting thing is theres a second N&C artist from the area, also metalcore. Also two endorsers came in the area in the last year.

I think probably LOG is closer to Drowningman.

Re: What do you think of this snare drum?

The lugs and snare throw were heavily tarnished and even pitted in spots, I removed the tarnish and pitting using pumice, a buffing wheel with jewlers polishing rouge and 0000 steel wool. I then re-sealed the brass with a thin coat of spray lacquer. Re-brushed the aluminum shell to remove the scratches and re-sealed it as well.

It is now show room quality again.

Re: What do you think of this snare drum?

I am very broad based when it comes to music so I listen to just about everything although metalcore (and similar genres) are not what I listen to predominantly.

Dave is a great guy and is a very talented drummer, it would not suprise me if he has incredible success in his career.

Anyhow, I will take some pics and toss em up here.

Never mind the drummer, that snare is a beauty.

Does she have a sister?
