Hmm...

I've been looking at the Gretsch Catalina Ash shell pack for a while.
I just found a Sonor Force 2007 stage 1 shell pack for $50 bucks less
than the Gretsch.
The problem is, Muiciansfriend.com shows it as a 5 piece when it is a 6-piece.
It also has the color Birch as 2 different colors.
These problems worried me.
Now every once in a while I take a look back at the Force 2007 and I feel un-easy.
I really want to clear this fog up.
Can you guys tell me what set you think is better?
Please. I really want to get the best set possible for my self.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hmm...

Dude with all the research you've been doing, you should know by now that we can't choose for you to help with this dilemma your going through.
Go to the drum shops and decide on what your ears tell you to get. You've got the research down packed. Now you have to do the foot work and don't just go to one drum shop, check them all out if you can.
Your getting your mind into a spiral when you get yourself off track. I've been through it before deciding on which kit to get.
Now if your looking to get the best bang for the buck, try pricegrabber.com or some similar sites like Shopzilla. I'm all out of ideas on this one. Also check out Ebay or Craigslist.

I still think your the Guru of drum research at this forum.

Right Mr. Der

Re: Hmm...

I just did some research at Shopzilla and Pricegrabber and I can really understand you problem. I also checked out Ebay and the difference the was that the Sonor are about $150 more than the Gretsch.

Compare the two kits the Sonor Force 2007 stage and the Gretsch Catalina ash at the drum shop.

All you have to do now is try them both out. Decide and post some pics when you get them.

Re: Hmm...

What I think I might do is since my crash cymbal is very close to breaking,
I will buy a new one at the drum house and
ask the guy if he has any of the kits.
If he does, We will bargain with him on the Gretsch Catalina.
I've heard that if you bargain, he can bring it down to half the price!
(only at this store though.)
Or....
I can wait it out and watch the price on the kits go down down down
until my birthday in August.
Truse, Tainojim. If the dude has a set in the store, I'll see if I can hit it a little bit.
What do you think of those plans?

Re: Hmm...

Sounds good to me. Remember that he does need your money and not the other way around. Make sure tha you inspect the kit for nicks and scratches, that will definitely lower the price. Good luck.

Re: Hmm...

Thanks Tainojim.
I'll do that.
Or I can say I saw a lower price somewhere else
AND I'll find damage.
Plus if he doesn't have the kit,
a month ago I went there when I was intrested in the Blackhawk by Gretsch,
I asked him if he had it and he said,
I can get it for you if your intrested.
So I have a little past knowledge to fall on.
Pretty cool huh?

Re: Hmm...

Hey, Tainojim,
In the mail, I just got a Guitar Center 15% off coupon for
For their July 4th sales event.
Everything in the store is 40%-60% off!
And with that coupon, I get an ADDITIONAL 15% off the sale price!!
I need a new crash cymbal too.
On that weekend, I'm going to go there and hopefully get a new crash
(Paiste Alpha 16'' medium crash)
which will take off $132.60 off my Birthday drum plan.
Making it cheaper! (of course.)
I'll try not to bang up the crash as I want to keep it "Brand New looking."
So what do you think?
(Oh yeah, I still get to bargain with the drum shop for the Catalina Ash!!)

Re: Hmm...

How lucky can you get little buddy. Now you can replace that cymbal at a much lower purchase or even get a better one of your choice.

Good Luck and Happy Drumming.
