Re: Fusion or Standard?

You guys are all making good points, except I guess the even numbers thing is more of OCD, but there's also some other good points for fusion. Standard though has many good points also.

Ok, so continue discussing this topic, but now there's something else, if you were to get a new drum set, what sizes would you get? Fusion, or standard?

haha, slingerland59, we're comparing drum sizes. "Fusion" sizes are a 10" tom, 12" tom, and a 14" floor tom. "Standard" sizes are a 12" tom, 13" tom, and a 16" floor tom.

Odds as apposed to Even.

mynameisalfred, it 59 not Slingerland.

Two members Slingerland and Slingerland59.

Two separate entities.

Re: Fusion or Standard?

I like the smaller sizes.
If I had a 13, I'd have to go in a one up situation, or have the 13 mounted down as a floor tom.
Fusion, definetely.

Talking Re: Fusion or Standard?

Hi all,

It all comes down to the definition of "Fusion" and "Standard".
While Fusion relates to a certain mix of music styles, Standard does not. I think there is not such a thing as a "Standard or Classic kit".

The "original" Fusion kit would be: 20" bass; 10", 12", and 14" toms, ALL rack toms.
The "original" Jazz kit would be 20" bass, 10", 12", rack toms, 14" Floor tom, or a "Bebop" kit, 20" bass, 12'' rack tom, 16" floor tom.

Through the endless variety of combinations of drum sizes that are available the style of kits have become myriad.

My kit is: 20" bass 10"snare/tom (rack) 12" tom (rack) the 10"inch snare/tom sits straight up from my 14"snare, directly adjacent (left) to my 12" rack tom and a 16" floor tom. What would you call that? (apart from naff, ha,ha, )

I think most kits have become "hybrid", a common trend is is that Rock an Metal kits seem to go for 22" and/or 24" bass's, while some fusion kits even go "back" to an 18" bass.
As long as we all have fun

Cheers and Happy Drumming,

Harry

Re: Fusion or Standard?

Fun? There is nothing fun about it!!

No drummer can do without a "22 bass drum, a "13 rack tom and "16 floor tom. Do I make myself clear!?!?!?!?!?!?!
