Question Fusion or Standard?

That's it, what do you prefer? Fusion, or standard?

I've got this thing about evenly spaced numbers.

Re: Fusion or Standard?

I prefer the larger bass drum found in a standard rock kit and the even incrimented toms found in a fusion kit personally so I would have to agree with Pyrochazm.

Re: Fusion or Standard?

I'm super OCD about having nice, evenly numbered, even looking drums and cymbals to make my kit more attractive to my own eye. My drum teacher even told me about when he was a kid, having an 8-12-14 set up. I just grimaced. It just seems so odd. Standard kits make me feel amateur because, in my mind, the 12-13-16 set up has taken that role for some odd reason, and make me feel sort of... how do I put it... ugly and small behind such big drums. The sound is often better on fusion kits - easier to tune with even drums. I do like 22 - 24 inch kicks, though. I like my kicks big and deep and my drums good and small.

Re: Fusion or Standard?

I have grown very fond of my 12 and 13 inch toms. and whether it was a rack or a floor I can't seem to do anything usefull with a 14".

I like a 14" snare, a 22"inch bass drum and my 16" floor tom and I hope i'm gonna love my new 18" when it gets here. The plan is to deaden the floors a little somehow and tune them both a little tight to increase playablilty while retaining low end.

I say standard.
I really like deep toms. I just like the warmer sound.
Especially the deeper bass drum!!!!

Standard

I like to keep things evenly tuned. Besides, I can tune my kit anyway I like.

Re: Fusion or Standard?

I love my 6 piece set and would not trade it for nothing. I have a 14 and 16 floor tom. I am thinking about getting a an 18 and taking away the 14 floor tom. I love deep sound and besides a 14, 16, and 18 floor toms would look ridiculous. I do however like the 14 as it sounds so good with rolls and fills. I need rehab i am buying to much stuff.

You could move the 14 over to your left. Also, 14-16-18 adjacent doesn't look that bad at all.
