The glockenspiel is the marching band equivalent of orchestra bells which have metal bars, and actually have a bell like sound. You want a Marimba or Xylophone with wooden bars for a less bright tone. This will be much more expensive, look used.

yes marimba and xylophone are very expensive and big. It's hard to carry with and I think you can't hear sound of wooden without microphone on it and metal are more cut and louder(I'm guess).

Umm so another idea like change stick to mallet with rubber head or something to make it more soft????

The bells will cut through for sure, but a couple of in expensive condenser mikes into your PA will work fine for the xylophone or Marimba which do come in sizes similar to what you see in the video (which I believe is a Xylophone), but can't tell from the angle.

Hi All,

The ultimate sound would be of a Vibraphone which is a very sophisticated instrument with aluminium bars, and valve controlled resonating tubes underneath, which govern the pulse of the vibrating/tremelo effect.
THe controls are played with pedals, the sound is divine, but the instrument is expensive.

Cheers and Happy Drumming,

Harry
