Question Upgrading My Set...Any Suggestions?

I just bought a Yamaha Rydeen with the basic heads and cymbals. I like the sound of the snare and toms, but the bass and cymbals don't sound too hot. The bass gives a "POW" sound when I'm for more of a thud sound. Can I adjust this by tuning the bass or should I get a new head? The crash and ride are 16" and 18" and i guess i would describe them as trash can lid sounding. They also feel really heavy compared with other cymbals i've played with. These are my biggest concern -- the heads will suffice for now.

This is my first set so I don't know a hell of a lot about drums and cymbals. If anyone has any good suggestions for me I'd love to hear them. I am on a budget so I'm looking for reasonably priced cymbals. Thanks.

To make some recommendations we will need a little more info.

What about the cymbals don't you like? (ie are they too tinny or high pitched sounding or too dark or trash can lid sounding) What type of cymbals are you needing (hi hats, crash and ride) and what sizes are they?

What type of head is on the bass drum now? If you are looking for a deep thud with no ringing (referred to as "short sustain") you might try an Evans EMAD or EMAD2 batter head. You might also try an Aquarian Super-Kick series batter head.
